What Kind of Bike is Moto Guzzi V85 TT?
This year marks a big milestone for Moto Guzzi, which celebrates 100 years of motorcycle production at its factory in Italy. For every type of surface on this planet, there is a combination of wheels, metal, and engine that can tackle it. At the skeletal level, the terrain you'll be covering comes down to two types: road and off-road, and of course the ability to do a little of both which is exactly where the adventure category shines. The V85 TT is an enduro motorcycle from Moto Guzzi, which belongs to the middleweight adventure bike category.
What is an Adventure Motorcycle?
Purpose built adventure (ADV) motorcycles are becoming increasingly popular for touring and sport touring. ADV bikes sport many features ideal for racking up miles on any terrain– large wheels, long-travel suspension, upright seating, and good fuel range to name a few. While touring can technically be done on any motorcycle, by design adventure motorcycles offer comfort, performance, and versatility that make long distance travel more enjoyable and oftentimes safer.
An enduro motorcycle is an off road racing motorcycle used in enduros, which are long distance cross country time trial competitions. Enduro used to refer more to a cross country dirt bike race, but now is pretty much used any time someone is riding on rough off road paths. Adventure bikes are designed to include riding off pavement, so you can think of enduro bikes as a sub-category under the big umbrella of ADV motorcycles.
Both dual sport and adventure bikes are designed to be used on pavement or off road. The main difference is where each is most comfortable: adventure are long-distance bikes that can perform decently off road, the opposite strengths of a dual sport, which is a short-distance bike that excels off road. A modern adventure bike offers the nimbleness to handle the vast majority of trails while providing the comfort needed to ride on the road all day, and the ability to load gear and a passenger, as well.
