Can You Take the Motorcycle Safety Course Online?
If the open road is calling and you’ve decided to ride a motorcycle, moped, or scooter, one of your first steps should be to enroll in a safety course. A motorcycle safety course is designed for new riders, or as a refresher course for those that haven’t ridden in a while. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) does offer some courses online, but the majority will need to be done in person.
Find Out Your State’s Requirements and Pick Your Course
Contact your state department of motor vehicles to determine whether you need a motorcycle license or an endorsement. A motorcycle license is similar to a driver’s license, but is meant only for motorcycles; an endorsement is an addition to your current driver’s license that allows you to legally operate a motorcycle, as well as an automobile. Keep in mind these regulations will be different for scooters and mopeds!
Consider the following questions: What is the minimum age to obtain a motorcycle permit and a license? Are permits mandatory? What training courses are required? Will I need to pass a written, vision and road test? While it can seem overwhelming and like a buzzkill, just remember keeping yourself and others on the road safe is going to ensure years of fun and riding!
Triumph Motorcycles Teams Up with The Motorcycle Safety Foundation
If you’re on the fence or nervous about learning to ride, MSF’s Basic eCourse is a great way to see if riding on two wheels is for you. If you head over to TriumphRider.com and sign up, you’ll be emailed a code to receive the course for free! Yet another reason to love this iconic brand and their passion for riding, safely of course.
The MSF Basic eCourse is an interactive three-hour program conducted entirely online that provides riders of all skill levels with the basics of motorcycling. To be clear, the Basic eCourse is not a substitution for the Basic RiderCourse, and it won’t get you a permit or motorcycle endorsement on your license. However, it is a prerequisite for the MSF’s Basic RiderCourse and the perfect place to begin your riding journey.
Your next step to becoming a safe, confident and licensed rider, will be the MSF Basic RiderCourse, which is designed for beginning riders of all ages. In addition to classroom-style instruction, you’ll work a skills course with a coach to ensure that you’re comfortable operating and maneuvering a bike. The course often takes place over a weekend and everything is provided for you including gear and bikes.
